November 2024 GCC Factories Exam Revision Tips

Updated: Nov 6

GCC Factories exam revision tips for GCC Factories Candidates writing the November 2024 exams.

A few days remain until the 7 November 2024 GCC Factories Plant Engineering Exam and the 14 November 2024 GCC Factories OHS Act exam.

There is not much time left if you plan to write the upcoming exams.

If you know someone writing the upcoming exams, it would be nice of you to remind them that time is running out.

Priority for the next 30 days

The following 30 days are more about revision than anything else. If you have not completed the content, you may be in trouble.

Here are some tips as you go through your revision:

1. Understand the Exam Format

Familiarize yourself with the exam structure, key topics, and question types to focus your study on what matters most.

One mistake some GCC factory candidates make is focusing on the wrong content. Make sure that you prioritize the correct type of content.

The second mistake is not anticipating the pace they need to maintain during the exam. The exams are three hours:

  • You must complete five questions for the plant exam, which translates to 36 minutes per question.

  • You must complete ten questions for the OHS Act exam, which is 18 minutes per question.

2. Create a Study Plan

Break topics into manageable sections and set clear goals for each study session.

For the plant exam, allocate more time to popular topics like accident prevention, electrical technology, and applied thermodynamics (Steam Generators in particular).

For the OHS Act exam, allocate more time to popular topics like the OHS Act, Construction Regulations, General Machinery Regulations, Pressure Equipment Regulations, and Electrical Regulations. It will also help to take note of the most recent regulations, such as the:

  • Ergonomics regulations

  • Diving regulations

  • Asbestos regulations

  • Major hazardous installation regulations

  • Hazardous biological agent regulations

  • Hazardous chemical agent regulations

3. Use GCC Factories Practice Exams

Reviewing past questions is great for reinforcing knowledge and understanding the scenarios you may face in exams. It can also help you identify trends.

4. Engage in Group Discussions

Discussing the essential concepts with peers can offer new insights and solidify your understanding of engineering principles and safety protocols.

There are numerous GCC WhatsApp groups where you can engage participants in the same location as you.

You may also want to consider joining our GCC Factories Plant Programme, which is more structured and includes group discussions and five days of exam revision.

5. Apply Real-Life Scenarios

The GCC Factories exams are competency exams. The examiners have been drawing from recent incidents and significant employer non-compliance noted by the Department of Employment and Labour inspectors.

Reviewing recent incidents or trends and applying them to the GCC Factories content will be worthwhile. Examples of recent incidents and trends include:

  • The numerous gas tank explosions.

  • There has been increased non-compliance in the construction industry and recent incidents.

  • Renewable energy and its implication to factories.

  • Microgrids and their implication to factories.

  • The formation of the National Transmission Company South Africa and how it will affect factories.

  • Ergonomics incidents and the drive to ensure compliance to the new ergonomics regulations.

For the safety exam, it would be best to prioritize being involved in workplace safety inspections and incident investigations. Being part of your workplace's safety, health, and environment committee will count in your favor since it will provide you with practical experience in implementing the OHS Act and its regulations.

Conclusion

There is not much time left till the November 2024 GCC Factories exams.

It would be best if you prioritized revision in the upcoming days by focusing on the following:

  • Understanding the exam format

  • Creating a study plan

  • Engaging in group discussions

  • Applying real-life scenarios

I hope the above tips will help you with the final revision and that you will pass the upcoming exams the first time!
